Question: Which is better, for the person to read the Qur’an completing his recitation numerous times or for them to read it carefully along with its explanation (Tafsir) once or twice during the month of Ramadhaan?
Answer: Wallaahi, if you read it once along with its explanation and understanding then this is better than reading it quickly in haste. And Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (May Allaah be pleased with him) when a man came to him and said to him, “Surely last night I read four parts of the Qur’an (from Surah Qaf to the End).” He said, “Verily I read this last night.” Ibn Mas’ud said to him, “This is like the hasty reading of poetry.” Therefore it is befitting for the person to read the Qur’an and reflect upon it. So, it is better for him to read it with its Tafsir (explanation) and take his time and ponder over it and seek help in reflecting upon it by what he reads from the Tafsir.
