The Two Testimonies | Imām Muhammad bin Sālih al-Uthaymīn
“And the saying that “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” along with the saying that you testify that “There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allah alone”; these two gather together the two conditions of worship, and they are:
• Sincerity in worship of Allah (alone).
• And worship in accordance to the teachings of the Messenger of Allah, Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam
Because whosoever says, “There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allah alone”, has devoted his worship to Allah Alone. And whosoever has testified that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, has followed the Messenger of Allah, and didn’t follow anyone other than him.
And this is why both of these are considered to be the first pillar from the Pillars of Islam. Because they both refer back to one thing, and that is: ‘The correctness of acts of worship’; because the acts of worships aren’t correct except with these two testimonies: The testimony that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, with which sincerity is achieved and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, with which the following of the Messenger is achieved.”
